Busy moms and dads, when it comes to meal
time, who has the time to make delicious and nutritious lunches and dinners every time?
Well, our next two guests came up with a culinary solution that’s not only tasty but quick and
easy. Joining us from Modern Table is Gulbin Hoeberechts, affectionately known as Cheif
Mom, and Jennifer Eiseman, Modern Table’s markesting Maven. Welcome guys.
We’re so excited to be here. And this is going to be so much fun.
Alright, I’m going to go right to your website, and this is your quote: “Life gets crazy sometimes,
and when it does, we don’t want to compromise.” I love that about you guys. You don’t want
to compromise. You want to give us the best. Tell me about your food philosophy.
We are busy moms ourselves, and we know, as moms, how busy life gets. We know dinner is
very hard. You have to figure that out every night. It’s the job that never gets done.
And you want to give your family healthy food, but it’s not always that easy. Sometimes you
actually make a healthy meal, and if you have a kid like mine – I have a five-year-old who
throws himself on the floor and protests – and if he doesn’t eat it, it’s not healthy.
Right. For those situations, we want to be able to
give moms another option that’s healthy, so they don’t have to revert to the empty calories.
Yes. So, for that, we came up with Modern Table
Meals that are naturally nutritious, delicious, and super easy to make. Even our husbands
can make them. We are moms on a mission.
Well, starting this business seems like a leap of faith, but it’s not your first big
leap, I understand. No, Julie, actually it’s not. Gulbin and I
have known each other for a long time, pre-kids. The pre-kid era, we say.
Awe, that’s a bond. And we actually ended up in New Zealand together
on top of a 150 foot bridge, and next thing you know, we were bungee jumping off of it
with nothing more than a rope. Tied to each other.
Oh! Then you’re good friends. Yes.
Close friends. So, we knew we could trust each other. So,
we were pretty sure going into business together would work out.
You know, what I want to talk to you about is, these look amazing, and what I was so
impressed and just floored by is that the staple of all of this is beans.
Bean-based pasta is truly a revolutionary breakthrough in the food world. So, everybody
knows and loves pasta, but we’re not really feeling that great about eating something
made from wheat. Well, beans are an amazing vegetable. They also are a protein. Nothing
else can claim that. So, we found a way to take a really healthy ingredient and put it
in a very familiar format. Oh my gosh.
So it looks like pasta, cooks like pasta, tastes like pasta, but you get all the protein
and fiber of beans. So, tell me what options we have here. It
looks great. So, you have Southwest here. This is the Southwest,
this one. And then you have Italian, which is roasted tomato sauce. And you have Mediterranean
as well as Teriyaki. The other neat thing is that there’s actually a little customizable
seasoning packet that comes out. And here’s, actually, the little seasoning that comes
out of it. And that’s customizable. So, you can put it on yours and you can hold it off
from your kids. And for those who are vegan or want gluten
free, what are your options? Well, we have, they’re all vegetarian. We
have two that are vegan, and we have three that are gluten free. So we have something
to meet all dietary needs. And I heard something about mac’n’cheese.
What? That’s right. It’s coming. It’s coming.

So how easy is it? Show me. It’s super easy. So, here’s what you do. You
buy this bag, and everything you need is in here.
Everything? Everything. So, you open it up and you have
a sauce packet. This we’re going to mix up. Here’s the most important part. This is that
bean-based pasta with veggies. So, you’ve got pasta and veggies that go into boiling
water, and they boil together at the same temperature. And you boil it for eight or
nine minutes, drain it, and then you get this. Voila. You add the sauce.
And then the sauce is really easy to make. All you need is water and oil and whisk it,
and this one is a Southwest flavor. And so then you can just take this? Oh, you’re
going…Oh, wow! And then you just pour it right over.
Alright. And then you just toss it a couple times,
and then you have this other seasoning packet that came in here. And this one happens to
have our Southwest, is one of our spiciest flavors. So this has got extra heat on here.
So use accordingly, and then this serves a family of four. But if you want, as we call
it, jazz it up. So, you know, if you have a husband like mine who has to have meat,
then you can add a protein. We make recommendations on the back of the panel what goes well. So
Southwest pairs really nicely with steak. Okay, you just solved dinner for me tomorrow
night. I know what I’m doing. This is fabulous. I want to just thank you guys for coming in.
