How to Teach Your Children Healthy Eating Habits

That might be a little different for each
child depending on their level of interest. I would say when a child’s five or six they
might be able to help paint olive oil on vegetables so then it becomes fun like painting. Maybe when they’re in second or third grade
they can begin to help put dishes together, I would say sixth, seventh, eighth grade might
be the point where they could really take the rein and put a meal together for the family
and cook it and present it. Those kinds of things. It really starts young and then involving
them with little steps and then expanding to all right I’m gonna cook a whole meal on
my own. Working up to that point. I would discuss that in advance. I think menu planning is key. Again, involving kids in menu decisions and
making of the food is critical so I would say maybe in advance whenever grocery shopping
occurs say, “All right, these are the few snacks we’ve got for the week. This what you have. Does this look good to you.? Does this sound like it’s going to taste good? Do you feel like it’s going to keep you full
’till dinner?” Really having that conversation. I mean we eat for things to taste good to
us and to keep us full, you know, so making sure that those qualities of foods are gonna
apply to the kid in that moment are key.
