Managing a Healthy Diet : Resources for Healthy Weight Loss

Hi, I’m Brenda Thompson, registered dietitian
and owner of Life Skills Nutrition. In this segment, I’m going to talk about who should
I receive weight loss advice from. Registered dietitians are the experts in the the field
of food and nutrition. Dietitians are registered with the Commission of Dietetic Registration,
who is the credentialing agency of the American Dietetic Association. These are the credentials
that a registered dietitian must have. The Commission on Dietetic Registration defines
a registered dietitian as an individual who has completed a minimum of a Baccalaureate
Degree granted by the U.S. in a regional accredited college or university or an equivalent. Number
two, they must have met current minimum academic requirements that are regulated in a Didactic
Program in Dietetics, as approved by the Commission on Accreditation/Approval for Dietetics Education
of the American Dietetic Association. A dietitian has completed pre-professional experience
accredited/approved by the Commission on Accreditation/Approval for Dietetics Education of the American Dietetic
Association. Four, they have successfully completed the Registration Examination for
Dietitians. They also have an annual registration maintenance fee. Lastly, they have accrued
75 hours of approved continuing professional education within a specific five-year reporting
period. As you can see, dietitians are the experts in food and nutrition. We are required
to keep up our education credits, as well as required to follow a very strict education
program, which will allow us to be the leaders in food and nutrition.
