Hi, my name is Carlos Thomas Fenwick, and I’m a personal trainer here in Washington DC. Today we will be talking about the keto diet. What is the keto diet? Well, the keto diet as a diet that helps people to burn fat. You’ve probably seen in the fitness world tons and tons of ways for people to burn fat, whether it’s running long distances, or exercising for extended amounts of time, but you never find the right diet to help you burn fat. Well that’s what the keto diet’s all about. Your body runs off of two sources of energy: sugar and fat. So the issue with sugar, though, is that sugar burns fast. So, a person needs to consume more and more and more sugar over time. The body only has about 2 teaspoons of sugar in the blood. So it switches your body over from using sugar as the fuel source to fat. Now, the transition to keto can be a difficult one just simply in the first two to three days — this is my personal experience. I have been living off of sugar for all my life So to be able to transition from sugar to fat was difficult in the beginning. But I was able to learn actually from a gentleman by the name of Dr. Eric Berg how to do that, how to make that transition go over very well. And the transition is, you just add more fat to the diet! So I have bacon for breakfast, or like 2 eggs, and then I have either some cheese, some good — what I call “good fats”, so I’ve got cheese there or I will um use butter. Because that’s a good source of fat too. So each meal, it will contain butter, or it will contain a good fat in it. Um, that way, that helps the body to make that transition over from sugar to fat. So the benefits of the keto diet? Well, keto provides you with sustainable energy throughout the day, it also helps with mental clarity it helps you to focus more on getting jobs done and getting tasks done. It also improves — and this is the most important thing — your health. It ensures that your body is not using sugar as the major fuel source because, at the end of the day — and this is a real truth — sugar is a poison to the body. That’s why there’s only 2 teaspoons of sugar in your blood, and when you overdose your body with sugar well, different things occur: cancer, diabetes, other diseases.
